About Character Builder: Relationship Web for Writers
A character-development workspace combining deeper profiles with a linked relationship web, cast roles, relationship status, connection counts, and prompts for further development.
What’s included
- Want, Need, Wound, Lie, and Mask profiles
- Linked Relationship Web
- Cast-role board, connection counts, and craft primer
How to use it in practice
Add the central character and two people who influence their choices. Record a concrete tension in each relationship, then test it against a scene rather than filling every profile field in isolation. Use isolated-character or development flags as questions to investigate, not instructions to add unnecessary backstory.
Set it up in your workspace
- Open the original Notion Marketplace listing and add the template to your chosen workspace while signed in. Keep its example records until you understand how the pages connect.
- Add the central character and two people who influence their choices.
- Try one complete example before adding a large backlog. Check that its views and any calculations show what you expect, then replace the sample content with your own.
Who it suits and what to consider
Fiction writers who want the tensions between characters to remain visible during planning. The framework supports exploration and does not determine whether a character is convincing. Adapt the prompts to your genre and avoid treating every field as mandatory.
