About Prioritization Rice Method
RICE gives you a consistent way to compare possible work. This template supplies a place for the inputs and calculation. The score is only as useful as the assumptions behind it, so record why you chose a value and revisit it when better evidence arrives.
What’s included
- A task-prioritization layout using RICE
- Inputs for reach, impact, confidence, and effort
- A prebuilt formula for calculating the score
How to use it in practice
Score a small set of comparable initiatives using one consistent time period and effort unit. Write down why you chose each estimate, especially confidence. Compare the ranking with dependencies and commitments before deciding what to do. If a tiny change to one estimate reverses the order, treat the score as a prompt for discussion rather than a final verdict.
Set it up in your workspace
- Follow the original creator’s checkout or access instructions to obtain the Notion page. Open that page while signed in, then duplicate it into the workspace you want to use.
- Score three competing ideas using the same time period and definitions. Add a note explaining the most uncertain estimate.
- Try one complete example before adding a large backlog. Check that its views and any calculations show what you expect, then replace the sample content with your own.
Who it suits and what to consider
People prioritizing ideas or a product backlog. Best for comparing similar initiatives with explainable estimates. RICE is less useful when one task is a mandatory commitment and another is an optional idea.
